A Wisconsin Rapids man accused of hit and run appeared in Wood County Court on Wednesday.
Back in February, the Wood County Sheriff's Department Deputies were dispatched to a hit and run crash on Ranger Rd in the township of Saratoga. The initial investigation indicated an eastbound vehicle on Ranger Road struck an unoccupied truck that was being loaded onto a trailer by several individuals.
The impact caused the truck and trailer to strike the three individuals who were attempting to load the unoccupied vehicle. The three individuals sustained minor injuries.
Through the investigation, the striking vehicle was identified as a 2006-2010, Hyundai Elantra. Because of the damage to the striking vehicle, Wood County Deputies conducted a neighborhood canvas and provided enhanced patrols in the area.
During the investigation, an anonymous tip came in regarding the striking vehicle and a possible driver. Wood County Deputies were able to locate the striking vehicle as well as identify the driver who admitted to hitting the vehicle and leaving the scene.
The driver was identified as Wayne Wrigley of Wisconsin Rapids. Wrigley is facing a charge of hit and run involving injury. During his preliminary hearing, probable cause was found so his court proceedings will continue. He entered a not guilty plea to the charge against him.
