17-Year-Old Killed in One Vehicle Crash in Wood County

A 17-year-old was killed in a single vehicle crash in Wood County on Saturday.
According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, around 2:32pm on Saturday, April 13th, the Wood County Dispatch Center received a call of a one vehicle crash on Hwy 80, near the intersection of Hwy 54 in the Township of Dexter.
Wood County Deputies arrived on scene and located the vehicle engulfed in flames. Deputies did attempt fire suppression on the vehicle. A short time later units from the Pittsville Fire Department arrived on scene and successfully extinguished the fire.
Initial on scene investigation concluded the vehicle was traveling northbound on Hwy 80 and crossed over the southbound lane into the shoulder / ditch area. The vehicle then left the roadway and struck a tree.
The operator and lone occupant, 17-year-old Lucy Vanatta, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Wood County Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by the Pittsville Fire Department, Arpin Fire Department, Vesper Fire Department, Wood County Coroner, Wood County Hwy Department, DNR Rangers and Niemans Tow Service. This incident remains under investigation.
