OFFICIALS WARN OF BLACKTOP SCAM

Area residents are being warned to watch out for blacktop-sealing scammers.This week, the Wood County Sheriff's Department was called to investigate a possible scam in the Town of Lincoln near Marshfield.
A young man in a white van allegedly approached property owners asking if they wanted their driveway sealed. He claimed to be a sub-contractor for a number of reputable companies, including American Asphalt and Sealcoat.
He goes through the motions of spraying a black compound on the driveway, but it's not a sealer.
The man speaks in a heavy southern accent.
The Sheriff's Department is investigating and warns these scams are common this time of year. If you fear you may have fallen pray, you should contact your local law enforcement agency.
