No Criminal Charges Against Law Enforcement Personnel From Fatal Weston Domestic Disturbance

(Chris Conley, WSAU and WAOW) No criminal charges will be filed against law enforcement personnel stemming from a fatal Weston domestic disturbance in December.
According to Chris Conley with WSAU and WAOW, Marathon County’s District Attorney issued her decision on Tuesday, determining no criminal charges will be filed and officers were justified. Officers were called to the 3300 block of Mount View Avenue in Weston on Dec. 27, 2023.
Russell Mitchell, 63, died after officers shot him when they encountered Mitchell assaulting a woman with a knife. Officers attempted less lethal options prior to shooting Mitchell.
Lifesaving measures were attempted, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers located the woman, who had sustained life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a local hospital. No officers were injured in the incident.
