Wausau Man Found Guilty of Sexual Assault of a Female Patient Facing New Charges

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau man who was found guilty of sexually assaulting a female patient as she was being transported to a hospital is now accused of violating the terms of his bond for new charges of sexual misconduct.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Clifford Heiser is set to appear in court on Thursday for charges of bail jumping and failing to maintain his address on the state sex offender registry, which he is required to do as part of the 2019 sentence for misdemeanor sexual assault, which occurred while he was employed with the Wausau Fire Department.
He was on probation for those charges when new accusations of sexual assault surfaced against him in 2023. Investigators say he forced himself onto a woman as she was sleeping.
The 39-year-old is now accused of accessing the internet and using social media, which he isn’t allowed to do under the conditions of his bond for the new charges.
At least one woman says Heiser was “following” her on social media. Investigators say he also had pornographic photos and images stored on his device. Court records show Heiser was taken into custody this week and made an initial appearance for the latest counts on Thursday.
Judge Rick Cveykus gave him a $1,500 cash bond, which was posted. Heiser has been ordered to have no contact with the victim and no unsupervised access to the internet unless it’s for employment purposes.
He’s also been ordered to have no access to social media including Facebook and Snapchat. His next appearance in both the sexual assault and sex offender registry cases is scheduled for May 1st.
Heiser faces an additional 3.5 years in prison on top of whatever charges may come from the two most recent cases based on his sentencing from the 2019 incident.
