Mosiness Man Accused of Stabbing Police Officer Appears in Marathon County Court

Monday, April 8th, 2024 -- 3:00 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The Mosinee man accused of stabbing a police officer will have a plea hearing later this spring.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Randy Beardsley appeared in a Marathon County courtroom on Thursday where Judge Gregory Strasser scheduled a plea hearing for May 23rd. He faces two felony counts of battery against an officer and substantial battery.

Both of those counts carry modifiers for the use of a dangerous weapon. Investigators say Beardlsey was found lying near the intersection of 7th and Main in Mosinee during one of the coldest nights of the year. When the officer got to the scene, Beardsley is said to have stabbed them with a sharp object.

The officer called in backup including a K9 unit from the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office. As the incident continued Beardsley didn’t cooperate with the Officers’ commands, and was taken down by the K9.

Both Beardsley and the officer recovered from their injuries. The 41-year-old is facing up to ten years in prison if found guilty. It’s unclear what led to the attack. Beardsley has no prior criminal record in Wisconsin.
