Recent Incident Regarding Man Carrying a Gun in Thorp

On Thursday, April 4th, at approximately 6:49 PM, the Thorp Police Department was alerted to a male individual walking within the City of Thorp while openly carrying a rifle slung across his chest.
This display of a firearm caused concern among residents, resulting in multiple calls to the Clark County Dispatch Center. Responding promptly, officers from the Thorp Police Department and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office approached the individual and confirmed that he was lawfully exercising his Second Amendment rights by openly carrying the firearm.
According to witness reports, the individual was sighted in the vicinity of S. Adams St. and W. Prospect St., Conway Park, McDonald’s, and on S. Washington St., moving northbound towards the Stanley St. area.
Fortunately, there was no indication that the individual approached the Thorp School buildings. The Thorp Police Department stated that, “please rest assured that the Thorp Police Department takes the safety of all citizens seriously. Your safety and peace of mind are always our top priorities.”
