(Wyatt Williams, WAOW) While many were headed to the polls to vote, in Spencer they were cutting ribbons on Tuesday, according to Wyatt Williams with WAOW.
"One thing we always wanted to consider was getting the infants and toddlers involved as well," said Mike Endreas, District Administrator of the Spencer School District.
"So, the facility that we opened today will provide service to young families in providing daycare for 6-week to 3-year-olds and then when that juncture is over then they graduate to our Rookie Rockets program." After seeing how much of a necessity a new day care would be for Spencer, the school got to work.
Jordan Buss, Board of Education President said, "We saw it as a growing need, you know, childcare is a really difficult endeavor for young families, and so in order to provide that to our community we decided to utilize the funding available that we received reimbursement on from the FEMA Grant project."
One of the deciding factors of the project was an unnamed staff member needing care for her newborn. She was considering choosing between work and family, but the school didn't think that should ever be a choice.
"There is a priority list, our employees and community are our top priorities in servicing, and then if there's no waiting list or if spots become available, we will offer it to other surrounding communities as well," Endreas said.
If you live nearby and want to get your kids into the program, they're taking sign-ups now.
