Senator Tammy Baldwin Stops in Wausau

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) US Senator Tammy Baldwin continued the “Tammy’s Dairyland” tour on Wednesday with a downtown business tour in Wausau.
According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, the Senator, who is up for re-election this November, visited businesses including The Pinery Coffee Company, The Chocolate Cafe, and Object Homewares.
Baldwin talked with business owners and voters about issues including the economy, saying she knows times are tight for many. Baldwin said part of the solution involves calling out “corporate greed” by spotlighting ways that decreased production costs haven’t been passed along to consumers.
One example she gave is the cost of diapers, where input costs have gone down but retail prices have stayed level. “Paper pulp, basically stuff we produce around here, has gone down 25%.
But the company has not reduced the price of the product. We need to shine the spotlight on them and say ‘Shame’ these savings need to be passed on,” said Baldwin. She also blamed ‘shrinkflation,’ which is where companies don’t alter their prices, instead decreasing the amount of product they put in a container.
The stop was part of a week-long tour of the Badger State that will take her about 1,400 miles. Other stops on Wednesday included Waupaca, the Fox Valley, and Jefferson County. Earlier this week the Senator stopped in Ashland, Superior, and Merrill.
