(Chris Conley with WSAU and WAOW) The Wausau Fire Department confirmed that one of their firefighters was injured while putting out a blaze at the Wesley United Methodist Church.
According to Chris Conley with WSAU and WAOW, Fire Chief Jeremy Kopp confirmed the report on Wednesday, saying the firefighter suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
“We are relieved to report that the firefighter is expected to recover from their injuries,” said Kopp. “Our thoughts are with them and their family during this time.” The fire was contained in an attic space in the Church. Crews had it put out in less than an hour.
“The Wausau Fire Department is immensely grateful for the overwhelming outpour of support from the community during this challenging time,” said Chief Kopp. “The Wausau Fire Department remains steadfast in our mission to provide rapid, professional, and unwavering emergency services to safeguard and enhance our community.”
A Wausau battalion chief said the fire was believed to be caused by an electrical issue.
