The Greenwood and Loyal School Boards reviewed the results of a recent survey gauging support for consolidation of the two school Districts at a Joint Board Meeting on Sunday.

Loyal Administrator Chris Lindner and Greenwood Administrator Joe Green reviewed the results of the one question survey conducted in February. The question was, “Would you support the consolidation of Greenwood and Loyal?”

The results were as follows:

  • Greenwood: 152 Yes and 63 No;
  • Loyal: 264 Yes and 86 No.

The results of the survey indicated 75% approval by Loyal and 70% approval by Greenwood. Administrator Green then reviewed the consolidation feasibility study. There were two options provided by Baird Financials.

Option 1:

  • 1 Year Impact Only;
  • Uses actual data to forecast potential first-year consolidation impact;
  • Timeline: 6-8 weeks;
  • Key Calculations: Levy/Mill rate, consolidation aid;
  • Results: Executive summary;
  • Best for: Concept exploration;
  • And Cost: $3,000 per district, $6,000 total.

Option 2:

  • Full Study, uses actual and forecasted data to project long-term impact of consolidation;
  • Timeline: 8-12 weeks;
  • Key Calculations: Levy/Mill rate, consolidation aid, potential budget forecast;
  • Results: Executive summary and final report;
  • Best for: Community engagement and process continuation; Cost: $6,000 per district, $12,000 total.

Both boards approved the second option.

Both boards discussed a facility study to follow the financial study. Administrators Green and Lindner would like permission to begin creating an RFP for the facility study. If needed it will be ready when the financial study is completed.

This was approved. Both boards believed they should try to collaborate/cooperate between the two schools wherever it proves beneficial to improve learning and increases opportunities for students.

Teachers, coaches, and staff involved need to be included in decisions to collaborate/cooperate as much as possible.
