The Neillsville Fire Department responded to a field on fire Wednesday afternoon.

According to Neillsville Fire Chief Matt Meyer, they received a call of a field on fire at W6050 Sherwood Road in the Township of Levis around 3:37pm Wednesday afternoon. In total, around 6 acres were burned.

The Department did receive assistance from the Wisconsin DNR in responding to the call as the area was in a fire protection district. The Department was on scene for an hour and had no injuries on their part. They believe the fire started from a spark after an individual had dumped some ashes after burning.

The Department wants to remind residents that it is extremely dry out and the windy conditions are creating a perfect storm of high fire danger. They ask you to be extremely cautious if burning or simply don’t burn at all. They hope some forecasted snow/rain storms will help alleviate the dangerous fire conditions.
