At 3:12am, on Monday, March 18th, Hixton Fire & Rescue was paged for a reported Structure fire at 154 E. Main St in the Village of Hixton. Initial reports stated that the back side of the residence had heavy flames showing.
The structure was currently being used as a residential house and was the prior United Methodist Church of Hixton. Prior to arrival the single resident was able to exit the building. The resident was flown by helicopter with burn injuries.
Engine 51 crew arrived making immediate entry into the 1st floor and basement level. Crews were met with heavy fire and smoke. The interior crew reported heavy flames in the ceiling and walls.
Due to building type and age of building interior operations were called and a defensive attack was established. It's currently estimated that 200,000+ gallons of water were used between the Village water system and drafting from the Trempealeau River. No Firefighter injuries were reported.
