BOND SET FOR PARENTS IN FAITH HEALING CASE
Thursday, May 1st, 2008 -- 12:56 PM
A Marathon County judge released Dale and Leilani Neumann on $200,000 signature bonds Wednesday. The rural Weston couple is charged in the death of their diabetic daughter Easter Sunday.
According to court documents, the two prayed over their 11-year-old daughter Kara instead of taking her to a doctor.
Social workers agreed to return the Neumanns' three remaining children on the condition that other caregivers be available to look after the children. The caregivers are also required to seek medical care if the children require it.
Regardless of how you feel about the story, it could become a landmark case in Wisconsin.
In fact, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel today predicts it could be one of the more "dramatic legal journeys in Wisconsin history".
At play are issues of faith, medicine and parental rights; many of the legal questions might end up at the Supreme Court.
