(Sam Walters with WSAU and WAOW) Since the pandemic, pet shelters have been struggling with an overflow of animals, sometimes causing animal records to be overlooked.
According to Sam Walters with WSAU and Waow, due to this, volunteer Jared Jones created the app PawPartner which is an easier way to keep track of animal activity and records.
“We were using paper logs so it was hard to tell which animal had been in their kennel for the longest without going through the pages,” said Jones. Jones first created the app almost a year ago without any experience.
He said that his love for animals motivated him to create a more organized atmosphere for them. Lisa Leitermann, executive director of Marathon County Humane Society, said how crucial this app has been to the shelter.
“It improved processes on our end as far as data entry and keeping animal records up to date and having the volunteers be invested in the process, were sharing their notes and their photos,” said Leitermann.
Since then, Jones is currently working with other shelters to improve and update the app. “I want this to be able to be used by any shelter, and every shelter is a little bit different, so one shelter requested we integrate with their current form for when volunteers take an animal out,” said Jones.
