The Owen-Withee School District is asking residents living within the District to approve an operational referendum on the ballot.

The District is asking voters to allow them to exceed the revenue limit by $800,000 per year, for the next four years, beginning with the next school year for non-recurring purposes consisting of operational and maintenance expenses.

The past referendum, approved by taxpayers and ending this year, was for $400,000. However, due to inflation and rising costs, the District is asking for $800,000 with this referendum.

If this referendum is approved, the mil rate is expected to fluctuate minimally coming in around $7.12 per $100,000 of assessed property value for the 2024-25 school year; $7.11 for the 2025-26 school year; $7.21 for the 2026-27 school year; and $7.23 for the 2027-28 school year.

Over the past several years, the Board has strategically managed the property tax levy by paying down debt, reducing staff, and identifying other funding sources, such as applying for, and receiving, grants for the District.
