Former Loyal Student Discusses Guatemala Mission Trips

Six years ago, Loyal student James Meyer, along with his parents, Damon (a 1996 LHS alum) and Arlaina, spoke to the K-12 students at Loyal Schools.
He was a boy with a big idea. James returned to Loyal Schools this week with his family, including his 11-year-old sister, to speak to the students about their big idea. James was adopted from Guatemala and, at age 10, went on a mission trip to his home country.
He was so touched by the experience he made it a mission to raise money to build a home for a family in Guatemala. He spoke to students as a 7th-grade student who pushed through the fear of speaking to such a large group of people because his cause meant that much to him.
With the help of many people including the Rice Lake Rotary, there have been 12 homes built through Food for the Poor. A year ago, they made another trip as James’ little sister turned 10 and it was her turn to go. James is now a senior at Rice Lake High School and Elliot is in 5th grade.
