COULD DROWNING DEATHS BE WORK OF A KILLER?
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008 -- 11:07 AM
Is a serial killer responsible for a number of river drownings in La Crosse and Eau Claire? The FBI investigated and said "no", but now two retired New York City police detectives say they have evidence that points to a serial killer at work in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Kevin Gannon and Anthony Duarte say 19 men were killed in Wisconsin and Minnesota alone.
They say they've found smiley faces at the scenes of many of these deaths. They believe it's a sign from the killer.
That includes seven deaths in La Crosse and three in Eau Claire.
Detectives say the victims are all young, athletic and smart.
The La Crosse police chief still doesn't buy it. He says the drownings have been thoroughly investigated and determined to be alcohol-related accidents.
