Man Suspected of Stabbing Mosinee Police Officer Appears in Court

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The man suspected of stabbing a Mosinee Police Officer during a welfare check on a sub-zero night has pled not guilty to a pair of felony counts.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Randy Beardsley entered the plea on Friday in a Marathon County courtroom. Investigators say Beardsley was passed out near 7th and Main in Mosinee.

A patrol officer was called for a welfare check on the man, who got up and stabbed the officer with an unidentified sharp object. The officer was able to call for backup, including a K9 unit from the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect was injured after the K9 was deployed. Both Beardsley and the officer were treated and released from a local hospital. He faces counts of battery or threats against an officer and substantial battery along with a misdemeanor count for obstructing an officer.

The felony counts alone could land him in prison for up to nine and a half years. Charges against him carry modifiers for the use of a dangerous weapon, which could add to his prison time or possible fines.

A pretrial conference is scheduled for April 4th. The 41-year-old, who has no prior criminal history in Wisconsin, is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
