Monday, March 11th, 2024 -- 5:01 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) Investigators have wrapped up their report on a suicide incident in Rothschild that occurred with police officers present.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, the incident occurred on January 3rd when officers were called to an apartment to perform a welfare check. They encountered the victim in the unit, and he fled to a bathroom. While in the bathroom he produced a firearm and shot himself.

Officers quickly provided first aid, but the man died as a result of the wound. The responding officers wore body cameras during the incident, and no officers were injured. It should also be noted that no officers fired their weapons during the incident.

Marathon County District Attorney Theresa Wetzsteon has determined that the officers were not involved in the death and her office will take no further action. She considers the matter closed.

The State Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation served as the lead investigator for the report. They noted that all officers involved cooperated with the investigation. Officers from Rothschild, DC Everest, and Kronenwetter responded to the incident.
