EARN-A-BUCK RETURNS
Thursday, April 24th, 2008 -- 12:21 PM
The state Natural Resources Board has approved 35 earn-a-buck zones for this fall's deer hunts. The earn-a-buck program requires hunters to shoot an antlerless deer before taking a buck.
Hunters generally hate the requirement because they have to pass up trophy bucks. State wildlife officials say earn-a-buck helps control a burgeoning deer herd.
The board also approved changes to hunting rules in zones with chronic wasting disease. Those changes include consolidating the herd management and disease eradication zone into a single zone, setting up more traditional seasons and reducing herd population goals.
