Wausau Man Accused of Firing a Weapon at a Home Pleads Not Guilty to Gun-Related Charges

Thursday, February 29th, 2024 -- 11:00 AM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The Wausau man accused of firing at a home during an argument has pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of recklessly endangering safety and gun-related charges.

Nicholas Multani was in court on Wednesday to enter the plea. Police say the 18-year-old was part of an argument near a west-side home last summer. During the argument, he pulled a gun and fired a shot towards the home.

No one was injured in the incident but investigators did find evidence of a shooting and immediately named Multani as a person of interest. Multani was 17 at the time of the incident but turned 18 a few weeks later.

Due to the nature of the charges, the case would have gone to adult court either way. After the incident, Multani disappeared for nearly two months. He was captured in Racine on September 15th when officers performed a well-being check on two people who were passed out in a vehicle.

One of them was Multani, who was arrested on an outstanding warrant and a misdemeanor charge for obstructing an officer. The sides will return to Marathon County court on March 5th to schedule future dates including a jury status hearing.

A three-day trial in that case is scheduled for late August. His next court date in Racine County is April 15th.
