MORE COOPING BETWEEN LOYAL, GRANTON
Monday, April 21st, 2008 -- 12:03 PM
Loyal and Granton are looking to cooperate in more sports after some first-year successes. The two schools combined their junior high boys basketball and high school football programs this school year, and Granton superintendent Rick Rehm says it went well.
'There was really good rapport from the football. Excellent response from parents from both schools,' Rehm says.
Rehm says the boards plan to merge all junior high sports next year. While that decision has been made, some details still need to be worked out.
'The transportation aspect, who's going to coach? those are the things that we'll be looking at,' Rehm says.
But, also on the agenda is discussion about future cooperation of more high school sports.
Granton's graduating class this year is around 27 students, while the freshman class has only ten. The high school census is projected to drop below 70 in the next few years, which could make it hard to field high school teams, Rehm notes.
He and Loyal superintendent Graeme Williams have had preliminary discussions about a 'phase in' of varsity sports.
