Wood County Sheriff’s Department Responds to Two Vehicle Accident

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle accident on Thursday.

According to the Department, around 2:14pm on Thursday, two vehicles were traveling eastbound on State Highway 73 near Vans Road in Wood County behind one another. The back vehicle made contact with the back bumper of the front vehicle.

This caused the front vehicle to lose control and enter the oncoming lane into the ditch. The vehicle rolled and went airborne for a short distance until coming to rest. The driver of the overturned vehicle, 68-year-old Mary Stoflet of Eau Claire, was trapped until being extricated by Vesper Fire Department and Wood County Sheriff's Rescue.

Stoflet was flown from the scene by Medivac. The driver of the other vehicle, 40-year-old Joseph Pyatt of Wisconsin Rapids was not injured. Inattentive driving was a factor in this crash.

The Wood County Sheriff's Department was assisted by Wood County Sheriff's Rescue, Vesper Fire Department, United Ambulance, Wisconsin State Patrol, Wood County Dispatch Center and Medevac Helicopter.
