The School District of Abbotsford will ask voters within the District to approve a $17 million referendum on the April 2nd Election ballot.

Presently, the District says it has the opportunity to borrow additional funds with minimal impact to the tax levy. New debt payments will “wrap around” existing debt payments and the debt levy will not increase.

Projects include construction of additions, including for a safe and secure entrance, classrooms and a library; renovations, including to classrooms, the technical education area and district offices; safety, security, building infrastructure, systems, parking and site improvements; technology and ADA accessibility updates; and acquisition of furnishings, fixtures and equipment.

If approved, the referendum is estimated to have no impact on Abbotsford’s mil rate, which currently sits at $8.92 per $100,000 of assessed property value.

Abbotsford does have some upcoming community sessions for the public to attend and learn more about the referendum. They will have a session on Thursday, March 7th and Wednesday, March 20th at 6:30pm in the Middle/High School Commons Area.

They will have three coffee talks including Friday, March 8th at 11:30am at the Abbyland Travel Center in Curtiss, Wednesday, March 12th at 9am at Medo’s Family Style Restaurant in Abbotsford, and Monday, March 18th at 9am at the Abby Cafe in Abbotsford.
