OUTDOOR ENTHUSIASTS WANT WOLF HUNT
Wednesday, April 16th, 2008 -- 8:46 AM
Outdoor enthusiasts at Wisconsin's annual conservation hearings think wolves that were once nearly extinct should be hunted again. And they like the idea in a big way.Hunters and anglers who attended the annual spring Conservation Congress hearings in all 72 counties overwhelmingly voted last night to develop a hunting season on wolves "to keep the population within management objectives."
The DNR reports today the idea passed 4,848 to 772 in an advisory vote. The recommendation now goes to the Natural Resources Board.
The DNR's wolf expert, Adrian Wydeven, today says a hunting season on wolves would have to be approved by the state Legislature and he expects that move is several years away.
