Tuesday, February 20th, 2024 -- 9:56 AM
According to the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department, around 5:13pm on Tuesday, February 19th, they responded with 10 personnel to a report of large amounts of fire and smoke in the Waste Management transfer station within the City of Marshfield.
Upon arrival smoke was seen coming from the transfer station. Crews made entry to find a large pile of rubbish on fire. The fire was quickly knocked down with the use of hand lines. Smoldering within the pile of rubbish was noticed. Waste Management used one of their end loaders to empty the area of the fire and spread the rubbish outside while fire crews put out all hot spot.
The fire blacked two concrete walls and there was heat stress marks on the exterior metal sheeting in the location of the fire. High piled rubbish made it challenging to fully extinguish the fire.
There were no injuries. The fire is believed to have been caused by hot rubbish being loaded into the transfer station and was unintentional.
