Wisconsin Rapids Man Facing Attempted Homicide Charge Will Have New Competency Hearing

Friday, February 16th, 2024 -- 12:01 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wisconsin Rapids man previously deemed incompetent for trial will have a new competency hearing later this month.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Tommy Ehrisman is facing one count of attempted homicide and strangulation or suffocation after investigators say he tried to suffocate a woman with a pillow. At a certain point, he stopped and told the woman to call for help.

He told officers he had been planning the incident for two days and was also having thoughts of self-harm. He was deemed incompetent back in November, which put his trial on hold.

Doctors believed he could be competent for trial in a year with continued treatment. Court records show a new competency hearing has been scheduled for February 26th. Charges against him carry domestic abuse modifiers. If found guilty he could be sentenced to life in prison.
