(Caitlin Shuda, USA TODAY NETWORK - Wisconsin) Marshfield Clinic Health System is hoping to rebuild its oral surgery services.
According to Cailing Shuda with USA TODAY NETWORK - Wisconsin) This update comes after the health system contacted patients and confirmed to a reporter in January it would no longer provide some oral surgery services as of Jan. 31 because of an inability to meet the demand for the services.
As of Jan. 1, the organization had only been providing oral surgery consults or procedures at its Marshfield facility. According to the update provided by Marshfield Clinic Health System Friday morning, the changes to the system’s oral surgery services are hopefully temporary, said John Gardner, the system’s director of communications.
The health system did not provide a timeline or estimated date it would resume oral surgery services. Jeff Starck, a media relations specialist for Marshfield Clinic Health System, said the organization did not have any additional details to share, as the company's primary focus is ensuring patients continue receiving medical care in the western portion of the state.
Last week, Marshfield Clinic Health System announced it will more than double its labor and delivery beds at Marshfield Medical Center-Eau Claire to meet community needs after Prevea Health and Hospital Sisters Health System announced plans to close facilities in the western part of the state.
According to last week's announcement, Marshfield Clinic Health System will add 12 beds to its eight-bed unit, accommodating about 550 more births per year at the center. Prevea and HSHS recently announced they plan to close Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls and all Prevea locations across the Chippewa Valley by April 21.
Prevea residency clinics will remain open longer, closing by June 30. Marshfield Medical Center-Eau Claire President Brad Groseth said the Eau Claire facility is also working on plans to take on an increase in overall patients, especially in emergency and urgent care.
The system is recruiting workers and will host additional job fairs to account for serving more patients.
