Man Involved in Wood County Stabbing Sentenced

A man involved in a stabbing in Wood County was sentenced in Wood County Court on Friday.

According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, at 12:01am Saturday, January 1st of 2022, they responded to a man walking down the road who had been stabbed. The man was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.

Authorities responded to the scene where the incident occurred and, after a short standoff, they were able to arrest the suspect involved, David Kelm. A jury trial was held back in December. After deliberation, the jury found that Kelm had a mental defect, but he did not lack substantial capacity.

The court then granted the prosecutor’s motion for conviction and Kelm was found guilty of 1st degree intentional homicide and aggravated battery. He was sentenced to 30 years in state prison and 10 years of extended supervision.
