NEILLSVILLE MAYOR NOT INTERESTED IN SMOKING BAN
Friday, April 4th, 2008 -- 8:54 AM
Marshfield residents overwhelmingly threw their support behind a smoking ban Tuesday, but don't expect the city of Neillsville to explore the issue anytime soon.Mayor Diane Murphy, who just won another two-year term, has no desire to bring the subject up here.
"Well, I guess everyone has their own choices," Murphy said of Marshfield's decision, "But, as far as smoking bans? I don't even want to be a part of it right now."
Murphy says owners of businesses shouldn't be told what to do. Instead, customers should decide if they want to go to establishments that allow smoking.
"Sure, the taverns have smokers, but everybody that goes into the taverns knows that the smokers are in the taverns. If you don't want to put up with the smoke, I guess you ought to stay home," Murphy says.
Marshfield's smoking ban could go into effect as early as April 12th.
