Wausau Man Facing a Charge of Using a Computer to Facilitate a Child Sex Crime Scheduled for Trial

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) A Wausau man accused of trying to arrange a sexual encounter with an undercover officer posing as a teenage girl has been scheduled for trial.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, Jason Olerich will be tried on June 18th for charges of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime and child enticement. He’s also accused of possession of designer drugs with the intent to distribute and possession of THC.

All of those charges are felonies that could land him in prison for decades. Olerich is accused of trying to solicit sex from someone posing as a teenage girl on social media. Despite numerous reminders that the “girl” was 15 years old, Olerich insisted on meeting up.

The announcement comes a few weeks after the 41-year-old was sentenced for other drug-related offenses stemming from a different case. The case against Olerich dates back to 2019 and has been scheduled for trial several times.

Previous attempts include March of 2022 and May of 2023. The earlier attempt was put on hold while the state combined the drug-related offenses and child sex crimes into one case.

Another attempt at a trial in November 2023 was put on hold after the sides were able to reach an agreement on the drug charges, which was announced in early January. Olerich returns to court for a motion hearing on May 7th and a jury status hearing on May 31st ahead of the June trial, which is scheduled to last one day.
