Man Being Held in Marathon County Jail After Stabbing Mosinee Police Officer

Thursday, February 1st, 2024 -- 1:00 PM

(Mike Leischner, WSAU) The man suspected of stabbing a Mosinee Police Officer is being held in the Marathon County Jail while waiting for an initial court appearance.

According to Mike Leischner with WSAU, jail records show Randy Beardsley is being held on a $100,000 cash bond and is facing a possible charge of attempted homicide by aggravated assault. Investigators say the 41-year-old was passed out near 7th and Main in Mosinee.

A patrol officer was called for a welfare check on the man, who got up and stabbed the officer with an unidentified sharp object. The officer was able to call for backup, including a K9 unit from the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was injured after the K9 was deployed.

Both the officer and suspect were treated and released. Beardsley is expected to make a court appearance on February 13th. The incident happened during a cold spell in Central Wisconsin with air temperatures at or below zero.

Investigators have not determined a motive for the incident. Beardsley has no history of criminal charges in Wisconsin.
