100% Electric Buses a Major Step For the Granton School District

(Wyatt Williams, WAOW) The 100% electric buses are a major step for the community of Granton; and it could have a major benefit to taxpayers in the area since they will no longer be spending thousands of dollars a year on gas.
According to Wyatt Williams with WAOW, Nancy Popp, Granton School District Administrator said, “It's a little daring and it's a little brave and, I think, that's a little neat, and, not going to lie, as the district administrator, seeing how this changes our budget. We're looking at the fuel costs for the buses and seeing if it's going to be an improvement."
The five buses show how the school is trailblazing for the many that could potentially follow it if returns are good. Sheryl Young, Treasurer of the Granton Area School Board said, “We are one of the only schools, out of two, that have these buses in Wisconsin from what I understand."
"I just think it's a movement into the future and having electric buses, I think, it's very important for the environment. for our small school, and our small town. It shows what big, big things we can do."
Stina Jansen wears many hats at the school; she is a bus driver and special ed teacher. Caring for the kids on her bus is her number one priority. The quiet electric engine will help her, and the other drivers, to notice things they normally wouldn't hear.
“One of the hardest places to police bullying is on the school bus, and it is actually one of the highest percentage of areas where bullying happens so this, as a bus driver, makes it a lot easier for me to be able to see and hear what's happening on the bus," she said.
Inspections were started yesterday on the buses and they expect to get drivers trained and on the road as soon as possible.
