City of Marshfield Working With Private Group in Hopes State Will Provide Grant to Help Build New Community Center

Wednesday, January 31st, 2024 -- 11:01 AM

(Thomas Schumacher, WSAU) The city of Marshfield is working with a private group in hopes that the state will provide a grant to help build a new multi-use community center in the area.

According to THomas Schumacher with WSAU, the grant is expected to be worth as much as $2 million and Community Director Steve Barg stated that those funds would go a long way.

“This opportunity came up through something that Gov. Tony Evers had put out recently, and it could allow them to get as much as a couple of million dollars potentially if they were looked at favorably, so that would be very helpful to them to get things going.”

Barg also spoke about what a new center would mean for the city, saying, “We’re certainly excited about the prospect of having a facility like this in our community for recreation and for drawing people to the community as a tourism type of thing, since people may yearn for more activities in the area.”

The city will not be involved with the project once the grant process is completed and the project does not currently have an expected date to be started or completed and the grant process from the state can usually take anywhere from 30 days to 12 months, depending on the situation.
