A Wisconsin Rapids man arrested in Wood County at the end of last year for allegedly stealing a truck in Marathon County was sentenced in Marathon County Court on Friday.
According to the Colby-Abbotsford Police Department, they responded to a report of a stolen truck at the Cenex on Division Street in Colby. The man who made the report stated that he had left his truck running, went into the Cenex, and when he returned it was gone.
After watching the surveillance footage, the officer recognized the suspect Julien Jaminski. According to court records, Jaminski has numerous other charges against him in other counties that include theft, taking a vehicle without consent, and more.
On the same day, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department had located the stolen truck in Vesper. The Colby-Abbotsford Police Department took Jaminski into custody. Jaminski claimed a man named Curtis said he could borrow the truck.
However, authorities told him that they had footage of him on camera taking the vehicle. Jaminski then asked if "they had him on camera." The officer said they did and Jaminski replied, "Dang, well I guess I'm screwed then." Apparently, Jaminski had allegedly been wandering around the Cenex most of the day, occasionally asking for food and water.
During his court appearance on Friday, Jaminski was found guilty of, due to a no contest plea, take or drive a vehicle without consent and resisting or obstructing an officer. Another charge was dismissed and read in. He was sentenced to 2 years of probation with a condition of 60 days jail time.
