WOOD CO. RED CROSS EXPANDS EFFORTS IN CLARK CO.

Thursday, March 27th, 2008 -- 9:26 AM

This is American Red Cross Month.

The Red Cross has come along way since it was founded back in 1881.

Clark County is served by the Wood County chapter, and that service will expand this summer, according to Pattie Kelnhofer, Director of Disaster Services.

"The residents of Clark County will begin to support financially, and with their volunteer hours, their response and services of those community emergency needs," Kelnhofer says.

In other words, you can expect to see more Red Cross fundraising efforts here and an increased push for volunteers.

"Volunteers trained in disaster response. Those people that are trained and ready to take care of a family that's been devastated by a fire, continued training and response to the 'what if' situations," Kelnhofer explains. "I know the coordinators of the various blood drives have always been looking for volunteers to work for the various blood drives."

The official change in jurisdiction will take place on July 1st. Last year alone, the American Red Cross participated in relief efforts for 72,000 disasters.
