(Sam Walters, WSAU) A man wanted for probation violations in Marathon County was taken into custody by US Marshals in Texas on Friday.
According to Sam Walter with WSAU, Peter Jewell-Reigel, who was found guilty of sexually assaulting a child in 20-17, was on his way to a meeting with his probation officer when he cut off his GPS tracker and barrel-rolled out of a moving car in mid-December.
According to investigators he then fled to Houston, Texas two days later. US Marshals got involved in early January, then on Friday he was found in the parking lot of a hotel.
They say he was armed with a knife, leading to a stand-off that lasted several hours before he surrendered peacefully. Court action against him in Marathon County is pending, investigators say the meeting that he was en route to was prompted by a potential violation of his probation.
