Short Agenda for the Neillsville City Council at Their Tuesday Meeting

The Neillsville City Council had a very short agenda at their meeting on Tuesday.

Mayor Dewey Poeschel began the meeting by stating that, on behalf of the City Council and the Mayor’s office, he would like to recognize Chief of Police Jim Mankowski and his entire staff on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, which was Tuesday. He thanked them for their service and all they do for the community. It does not go unnoticed.

Chief of Police Mankowski reported on:

  • Police trainings;
  • Police Officer Fecker has completed police recruit school and will begin field training;
  • Getting proposals for a replacement squad with the money budgeted for wages from open officer positions;
  • December parking enforcements, citations, warnings, incidents, office activity, calls, officer activity, business patrols, citizens interactions;
  • Town of Mentor contract policing (starting in January, 2024 the monthly commitment will increase from 10 hours to 15 hours).

The Council then heard the various committee reports from the past few weeks. Council Member Barb Petkovsek reported on the December 26, 2023 meeting of the Grants Committee regarding:

  • Review and updating the list of grants in progress;
  • And discussion on TIF District No. 2 balance and closing.

Council Member Dan Clough reported on the December 27, 2023 meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission regarding:

  • Discussion on and tabling grant application for 118 Clay Street;
  • Discussion on the 2023 Historic Preservation Action Plan and letter to property owners;
  • Discussion with 140 W. Fifth street property owner on potential historic property listing.

Council Member Clough also reported on the January 9, 2024 meeting of the Commission on Public Works/Utilities regarding current activities.
