Marshfield Common Council Discusses Proposed Ordinance Regarding Remote Participation in Meeting
Wednesday, January 10th, 2024 -- 10:00 AM
The Marshfield Common Council only had a couple items on their agenda on Tuesday, but spent a long time discussing an ordinance regarding remote participation in meetings.
The 2nd reading of an ordinance regarding remote participation in meetings of Council and city committees, boards, and commissions. The Council had the first reading of this ordinance back in December. Council Members had some concerns about the ordinance at that time.
During the lengthy discussion, Council members were concerned about wording regarding members being removed from meetings if they have bad connectivity on their end and it dropped out during a meeting.
They were also confused regarding wording that stated a Council Member could attend via remote for three weeks. One Council Member even felt this ordinance was directed at her as she has attended many meetings via remote. In the end, the Council approved sending the ordinance back to staff for discussion and direct comments to the City Administrator.
The Council also heard the first reading of an ordinance amending the Campus Master Plan for Columbus Catholic Schools, located at 710 South Columbus Avenue, 1414 West 5th Street, and parcel 33-033531. No action was taken as it was the first reading of the ordinance.
The Council also approved a Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade project; authorized refilling the vacant Circulation Assistant position, approved the 2024 partnership agreement for the Marshfield Job Center, and a conditional Use Permit for 2609 East 4th Street.
