Man Arrested for 4th OWI After Mistaking Marshfield Police Department for his Hotel

Thursday, January 4th, 2024 -- 2:01 PM

A man was arrested for his 4th OWI after mistaking the Marshfield Police Department for his hotel.

According to a report from the Department, around 2:30am this morning, officers observed a vehicle parked crooked and only pulled halfway into a parking stall designated for police vehicles, as it was right next to the Marshfield Police Department.

As officers checked on the vehicle, they found it was still running and the operator was slumped over in the driver's seat. Officers knocked on the window to wake up the man and he struggled to open his window.

Officers noticed several empty beer cans scattered throughout the vehicle and a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his breath. The man told officers he pulled into the parking stall because he believed the police department was his hotel.

The man attempted to perform standard field sobriety tests, but was unable to perform some of the tests due to his level of impairment. The man was given a preliminary breath test, which came to .265, and was arrested for OWI 4th.

He consented to a legal blood draw and was transported to the Wood County Jail.
