Trust Your Doctor, Not Fad Diets, to Help You Lose Weight in 2024

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024 -- 11:00 AM

(Raymond Neupert, WRN) If you want to lose some weight in 2024, you should work with your doctor.

If your New Year's resolutions include weight loss, you will want to seek some help. Gundersen Health dietician Rebecca Cripe says working with a professional will increase your chances for weight loss success. "We are trained to look at health from a medical standpoint and how food, exercise, hydration and proper self care fit into that."

Cripe says any attempts to really change your lifestyle and lose weight could take six months. "So we're going to take small steps. We might meet every two to three weeks, maybe four weeks, and implement small goals that are realistic."

Cripe says every patient looking to lose weight is coming to the table with different factors. "It's somebody's genetics, it's somebody's other health issues, it's our environment, it's a lack of support, it's the readiness to change. There's so many little areas, so seek the help to individually see what's going to fit for you and seek that support to help."

Cripe says you should also expect any lasting weight loss to take several months, as you ease into healthier habits. She says that's the best way to ensure you're meeting your goals into the future.
