Neillsville Police Department Making Changes to Policy on How to Address Motorists
Saturday, December 23rd, 2023 -- 11:00 AM
The Neillsville Police Department has made some changes to how they address motorists after pulling them over.
As of Friday, patrol officers must identify themselves by Title, Last Name, and Department and then explain to the motorist why they've been stopped before questioning or asking for their identification.
Here is the language to their new policy: "Upon contacting the violator, the patrol officer should remain courteous and professional, providing the violator with verbal identification and the reason for the stop before questioning. The patrol officer should request the motorist's documentation (identification, proof of automobile insurance, telephone number, and vehicle registration) as part of their investigation."
