CLARK CO. ATV, SNOWMOBILE TRAILS CLOSED
Monday, March 17th, 2008 -- 8:50 AM
This winter will go down as one of the best for area snowmobilers in recent memory. But, as they say, all good things must come to an end and the trails officially closed Friday morning at 6 a.m.
"It was an excellent year. The best year in seven to nine years, actually," boasts Brian Duell with Clark County Forestry and Parks. The trails were open since December 24th, a far cry from the short seasons of the past winters.
"After (we opened), it just stayed cold and we kept adding to it. By the middle of January, we were in excellent conditions up until two weeks ago, we've been in excellent conditions," Duell says.,
Last winter, the trails were only open about 15 days.
Duell says the return typical winter conditions as also brought back excitement for the sport.
"It's sparked the interest," Duell says, "Talking to the dealers, they were able to move their inventory."
But, Duell says, the snowmobile clubs are still hoping to find new members.
The ATV and off-road motorcycle trail system are closed until May 1st.
