Friday, December 22nd, 2023 -- 12:01 PM
The Marathon County Sheriff recently had the honor of promoting Deputy Matt Bell to the rank of Lieutenant.
Deputy Bell has served with the Sheriff's Office for more than fifteen years and in a number of capacities. Deputy Bell came to the Sheriff's Office after a short tenure at the Pittsville Police Department.
It became very apparent early on that Matt was a highly proficient deputy with natural leadership abilities. Matt quickly earned a position on the SWAT team, ultimately becoming a dedicated marksman/sniper and then leading that team.
He currently serves as the Assistant Commander of the SWAT team. In addition to his SWAT responsibilities, Matt has served as an instructor in a number of disciplines and can often be found in the community giving presentations on how to prevent against violence and active shooter threats. In the fall of 2019 Matt assumed a new role within the Office when he joined the Civil Process team.
Deputies assigned to this team spend a great deal of time learning the ins and outs of legal paper process and service. This isn't an easy assignment and requires someone with incredible organization, critical-thinking and communication skills, all of which Matt has demonstrated throughout his career.
On top of all of the great work he does and the strong technical skills he possesses, Matt's greatest attributes are his personable, kind and caring nature. Matt has an incredible ability to connect with people.
He is highly respected across the Sheriff's Office and demonstrates a calm and confident presence in all he does. The Sheriff has complete confidence in him and looks forward to all he will do in service to the community. Matt is being assigned to the Patrol Division and will assume his new role early in the new year.
