Man in Involved in 2022 Wood County Stabbing Appears in Court

A man involved in a stabbing in Wood County appeared in court on Wednesday.

According to the Wood County Sheriff’s Department, at 12:01am Saturday, January 1st of 2022, they responded to a man walking down the road who had been stabbed. The man was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.

Authorities responded to the scene where the incident occurred and, after a short standoff, they were able to arrest the suspect involved, David Kelm. A jury trial began on Tuesday for Kelm. After deliberation today, the jury found that Kelm had a mental defect, but he did not lack substantial capacity.

The court then granted the prosecutor’s motion for conviction and Kelm was found guilty of 1st degree intentional homicide and aggravated battery. He’s scheduled for sentencing on February 8th.
