Marshfield School Board Approves Updated Whistleblower Protection Policy and More

The Marshfield School Board approved a new policy regarding Whistleblower Protection at their meeting on Wednesday.

It was mainly to update the policy. The Board expects all its employees to be honest and ethical in their conduct, and to comply with applicable State and Federal law, Board policies and administrative procedures should they see any violation or suspected violation of local/state/federal laws.

The Board also heard an update on results of a recent survey regarding how important students, staff, and community members felt recognition of salutatorian and valedictorian are.

879 students in grades 9-12 responded to the survey. 44.5% were neutral on the topic, 31.9% felt it was important, and 23.7% said it wasn’t important. 64 staff members responded to the survey. 40.6% were neutral on the topic, 4.7% felt it was important, and 54.7% felt it wasn’t important.

210 parents/families responded to the survey. 32.4% were neutral on the topic, 18.6% felt it was important, and 49% felt it wasn’t important. The Board also heard some facility updates.

They heard an update on the roof analysis of the building. Bill Snow with The Garland Company presented the findings of the roof analysis conducted for each of the buildings.

The purpose of the analysis was to provide the district with a comprehensive report outlining the conditions and concern areas to assist with prioritizing facility and maintenance needs throughout the district.

Also, a list of projects prioritized by need for each building was reviewed and discussed; $325,000 has been budgeted for capital maintenance projects for the current school year.

They also heard a Pickle Ball Project Update. Since the last update, the restroom building has been constructed with plumbing and electrical work completed. The remainder of the restroom work including the exterior water fountain will be completed in Spring 2024. 3’ chain link fence and gates have been installed around the courts. Project work will resume in the Spring.

The Board also approved the firm to Provide Financial Advisory Services and they approved the retirements, resignations, and new personnel. The Board also approved a Memorandum of Understanding with Empower Mental Health Clinic.

The Board also approved student travel to Orlando, FL for a Boys Basketball Holiday Tournament in December of 2024 and approved student travel to Milwaukee for the Regional Ocean Bowl in February of 2024.

Finally, the Board approved several donation including:

  • Painting of railing sections valued at $783.20 from H&S Manufacturing;
  • $500 from the Family of Judy Loos for supplies/books for the Washington School Library;
  • $1,000 from Dakonya & Derek Freis for the Boys Basketball program;
  • Cheese from Nasonville Dairy valued at $500 for FCCLA;
  • $250 from the Grell Family for the Project SEARCH program;
  • Snacks valued at $200 from Cornerstone Church to Lincoln Elementary;
  • $500 from Schierl, Inc to Lincoln Elementary;
  • For the Girls Basketball program, a trip to a Wisconsin girls' basketball game valued at $2,500 from the Heiman Family & Nasonville Dairy;
  • And team apparel valued at $5,259.97 from Wheelers GMC.
