Marshfield Common Council Discusses Possible Ordinance for Remote Meeting Participation by Council Members
Wednesday, December 13th, 2023 -- 12:00 PM
The Marshfield Common Council discussed a possible ordinance for remote meeting participation at their meeting on Tuesday.
The Council had the first reading of an ordinance regarding remote participation in meetings of the Council and city committees, boards, and commissions. It was stated that the purpose of this ordinance is to provide guidance now that Council members frequently attend meetings online.
They said the ordinance would also help determine what to do if a Council Member attending online loses internet connection, if there’s a limit on the number of times they can attend online, and other items.
Punitive action was even discussed if a limit is set on the number of meetings and they go over that amount. This was the first reading, so no action was taken and the ordinance will be brought back at a future meeting for a second reading and possible approval.
The Council also approved an ordinance rezoning property located at 1710 East 29th Street from “LI” (Light Industrial to “GI” (General Industrial) and they approved a proposed list of election inspectors and special voting deputies for a 2-year term (calendar years 2024-2025). This list included some put forth by Democrats and some put forth by Republicans, but most are non-partisan.
The Council also approved the contract renewal with MEUW and to continue to partner with MEUW’s Regional Safety Management Program through calendar year 2027. The Mayor also put forth the appointment of Mike Weigel to the Historic Preservation Commission, to complete a vacant term ending April 2025. This will be approved at their next meeting, which is next Tuesday due to the Christmas holiday.
In the approval of the minutes of the handful of other Committee Meetings held within the City of Marshfield over the past couple weeks, several items were approved with them including:
- To install temporary PFAS removal facility at Southside booster Station ($1,352,440.61);
- WTF Filter Sand Replacement ($720,000);
- Lawn care services contract (Beaver Creek Nursery and Landscaping, LLC);
- Contract extension for underground utility locating services (B&M Locating Service, LLC);
- Award shared-ride taxi service contract to Running, Inc.;
- A Memorandum of Understanding with the police union for a therapy dog;
- A new contract with Marshfield Area Pet Shelter;
- And a change order to contract with SEH for planning-related services through March 31, 2024.
One item, authorizing the refilling of the vacant GIS Coordinator position, was sent back to Committee as the Council looks at other options for that position.
