LOOKING FOR FRIENDS
Monday, March 10th, 2008 -- 10:25 AM
A group that supports the Neillsville Public Library is looking for more friends. The Friends of the Library organized in the early '90s to raise money for the library expansion project. They've stayed together, raising thousands of dollars for special projects.
"From these various fundraisers, it's not unusual for us to come up with $5,000 a year for things the library asks for," notes President John Ringstad, "Books, furniture, CDs, laminators?over time, we've bought a lot of equipment."
Membership dues are only $3 for individuals, $5 for families and $30 for sponsors, but to stay worthwhile, the Friends must continue to organize fundraisers, but fewer friends seem willing.
Ringstad's concerns will come to a head at a meeting next week where the Friends will decide if they will continue.
"The fact of the matter is we don't have a slate of officers, other than the current officers. Unless somebody comes forward, that slate of current officers will either have to deny taking part for another year or continue on. I can't predict that," Ringstad says.
If you're interested in helping the group, you should call John Ringstad at 743-2258, or attend the meeting Thursday night at 6:30 at the Neillsville Public Library.
