(Ted Ehlen, WRN) Train travel gets a federal financial boost in Wisconsin.
Senator Tammy Baldwin said the state will get $2.5 million in grants for five new routes that have been selected as priorities for passenger rail expansion. The routes include expanding the existing Hiawatha service between Milwaukee and Chicago to Green Bay, and adding more service to the Milwaukee-to-Chicago route.
The expansion plans would also include routes connecting Milwaukee, Madison and Eau Claire, as well as Eau Claire and the Twin Cities, and another connecting Chicago to St. Paul by way of LaCrosse.
Each route will get a half-million dollar grant from the U.S. Department of Transportations ‘Corridor ID’ program for development and planning.
